How Arvind Kejriwal can save himself

Narendra Modi and Amit Shah have a clear vision. Eliminate all opposition. Decimate them or absorb them. My previous post [link below] showed a few people decimated by them. Today let’s look at the others: those who are saved by joining the Bharatiya Janata Party [BJP].

1. Himanta Biswa Sarma

This guy was in Congress and faced serious charges related to the multi-crore Saradha chit fund scam. He also faced corruption charges related to drinking water supply in Guwahati. His house was raided by the Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI]. Then he switched over to BJP and all his crimes just vanished. It’s as simple as taking a dip in the Ganga and all your sins are forgiven. Today he is the chief minister of Assam. Nothing is heard of all the charges that were levelled against him.

2. Amarinder Singh

This former Captain in the Indian Army was a Congressman until Modi’s Enforcement Directorate [ED] started raiding him, his son and his son-in-law. He put an end to all those raids simply by joining the BJP.

3. Pema Khandu

This is another Congressman who washed all his sins in the Ganga of BJP. Many corruption cases that existed against him just vaporised when he joined the BJP in 2016. Today he is the chief minister of Arunachal Pradesh.

4. Suvendu Adhikari

Yet another Congressman who shifted allegiance to the Trinamul Congress and then saved himself from jail by joining the BJP. All the people who lost their money in the Ponzi scheme that he was part of were made fools by Modi’s party which exonerated Adhikari all too easily when he agreed to join the BJP.

5. Ashok Chavan

Another Congressman who was the chief minister of Maharashtra until the Adarsh Housing Society Scam hit him hard. The CBI was after him for years until he joined the BJP. All his sins melted away as naturally as a dewdrop vanishing on the touch of the morning sun.

6. Digambar Kamat

When the CBI started questioning him on certain irregularities related to water supply in his state of Goa, he just joined the BJP and all investigations ended altogether.

7. Ajit Pawar

This man and his wife were accused of corruption related to cooperative banks of Maharashtra. He then abandoned his party, NCP, and joined the BJP. All charges of corruption vanished.

8. Chhagan Bhujbal

He was arrested in connection with the construction of Maharashtra Sadan in Delhi. He too found the easiest solution by joining the BJP. Now he is a free man.

9. Narayan Rane

He abandoned the Shiva Sena and joined the Congress. And then charges of corruption came up. He joined the BJP and resolved all problems.

10. Praful Patel

Another guy who abandoned his party NCP and flocked to the BJP along with Ajit Pawar just to save himself from corruption charges.

11. Bhavana Gawali

Yet another of the Shiva Sainiks who jumped the boat to save herself from prison. And the redeemer was again the BJP.

Conclusion

During the ten years of Narendra Modi’s rule, 95% of cases filed by the Enforcement Directorate were against opposition leaders. During Manmohan Singh’s period, there were only 26 such cases and only half of them were against politicians from opposition parties. Modi’s first 8 years (up to 2022) witnessed 121 raids on politicians out of which 115 were against people from opposition parties. Many of these opposition people saved themselves by joining Modi’s party. Arvind Kejriwal can save himself too. Let all politicians save themselves at least. The country has become irredeemable anyway.

  1. There is no disputing that corruption has been and is a major issue, at lower levels and higher levels. But the way our political establishment -- comprising all parties in different states -- has gone about addressing it is totally disappointing, to the say the least.
Never has there been a ray of hope.
Every single party is guilty of acquiescing corruption, in one way or the other.
Parties point fingers at one another, akin to pot calling the kettle black.
Not a single party has acted decisively -- in a manner that will set an example -- against its members who have been charged with or convicted of corruption.
One can go on and on regarding this. But suffice to say that the way things are going in different parts of the country is extremely depressing.

    1. The very notion of morality, let alone dharma, has been brought down into a quagmire of filrh. That's the biggest catastrophe.

  2. Bingo! The list is endless, and there are more migrants from other parties than the original cadre for sure. Their way of centralising corruption..

The Adventures of Toto as a comic strip

'The Adventures of Toto' is an amusing story by Ruskin Bond. It is prescribed as a lesson in CBSE's English course for class 9. Maggie asked her students to do a project on some of the lessons and Femi George's work is what I would like to present here. Femi converted the story into a beautiful comic strip. Her work will speak for itself and let me present it below.  Femi George Student of Carmel Public School, Vazhakulam, Kerala Similar post: The Little Girl

Re-exploring the Past: The Fort Kochi Chapters – 4

The footpath between Park Avenue and Subhash Bose Park The Park Avenue in Ernakulam is flanked by gigantic rain trees with their branches arching over the road like a cathedral of green. They were not so domineering four decades ago when I used to walk beneath their growing canopies. The Park Avenue with its charming, enormous trees has a history too. King Rama Varma of Kochi ordered trees to be planted on either side of the road and make it look like a European avenue. He also developed a park beside it. The park was named after him, though today it is divided into two parts, with one part named after Subhash Chandra Bose and the other after Indira Gandhi. We can never say how long Indira Gandhi’s name will remain there. Even Sardar Patel, whom the right wing apparently admires, was ousted from the world’s biggest cricket stadium which was renamed Narendra Modi Stadium by Narendra Modi.   Renaming places and roads and institutions is one of the favourite pastimes of the pres...

Good Life

I introduced A C Grayling’s book, The God Argument , in two earlier posts.   This post presents the professor’s views on good life.   Grayling posits seven characteristics of a good life.   The first characteristic is that a good life is a meaningful one.   Meaning is “a set of values and their associated goals that give a life its shape and direction.”   Having children to look after or achieving success in one’s profession or any other very ordinary goal can make life meaningful.   But Grayling says quoting Oscar Wilde that everyone’s map of the world should have a Utopia on it.   That is, everyone should dream of a better world and strive to materialise that dream, if life is to be truly meaningful.   Ability to form relationships with other people is the second characteristic.   Intimacy with at least one other person is an important feature of a meaningful life.   “Good relationships make better people,” says G...

Georges Lemaitre: The Priest and the Scientist

Georges Lemaitre (1894-1966) The Big Bang theory that brought about a new revolution in science was proposed by a Catholic priest, Georges Lamaitre. When this priest-scientist suggested that the universe began from a “primeval atom,” Pope Pius XII was eager to link that primeval entity with God. But Rev Lemaitre told the Pope gently enough that science and religion are two different things and it’d be better to keep them separate.   Both science and religion are valid ways to truth, according to Lemaitre. Science uses the mind and religion uses the heart. Speaking more precisely, science investigates how the universe works, and religion explores why anything exists at all. Lemaitre was very uncomfortable when one tried to invade the other. God is not a filler of the gaps in science, Lemaitre asserted. We should not invoke God to explain what science cannot. Science has its limits precisely because it is absolutely rational. Although intuition and imagination may lead a scient...

Re-exploring the Past: The Fort Kochi Chapters – 1

Inside St Francis Church, Fort Kochi Moraes Zogoiby (Moor), the narrator-protagonist of Salman Rushdie’s iconic novel The Moor’s Last Sigh , carries in his genes a richly variegated lineage. His mother, Aurora da Gama, belongs to the da Gama family of Kochi, who claim descent from none less than Vasco da Gama, the historical Portuguese Catholic explorer. Abraham Zogoiby, his father, is a Jew whose family originally belonged to Spain from where they were expelled by the Catholic Inquisition. Kochi welcomed all the Jews who arrived there in 1492 from Spain. Vasco da Gama landed on the Malabar coast of Kerala in 1498. Today’s Fort Kochi carries the history of all those arrivals and subsequent mingling of history and miscegenation of races. Kochi’s history is intertwined with that of the Portuguese, the Dutch, the British, the Arbas, the Jews, and the Chinese. No culture is a sacrosanct monolith that can remain untouched by other cultures that keep coming in from all over the world. ...
