Positive vibes of Onam

I’m not superstitious, but I’m blatantly certain that this Onam has brought me some humour and its spices as well as condiments.  Bejan Daruwalla tells me that, with Mars shifting into Virgo in the 6th House and Saturn posited in the 9th House, I am all poised for great job satisfaction as well as lucrative income.  My stock broker tells me that my Bombay Dyeing and Tata Steel shares are ripe for sale after ditching me for over three years.  My body tells me that my health is pulsating once again.

What really inspired me is Bejan Daruwalla telling me that September is the month of Virgin Mary.  So Narendra Modi will be able to “cleanse and purify the Ganga,” says the astrologer.  Within days of the prediction came the appointment of Nitin Gadkari as the Saviour of the Ganga.  I’m sure miracles are awaiting us Indians.  Gadkari has plans not only for cleansing the Ganga but also for linking all the major rivers in the country to the holy river so that all Indians will be cleansed by Ganga Mayya. 

I’m already feeling rejuvenated.  Today is Thiru Onam, the most auspicious – at least, the most joyful – day in Kerala, my state.  Maveli emerges from Patala on his annual visit bringing the joys of nostalgia.  I’m sure my Bombay Dyeing and Tata Steel shares sell today so that I can pay the florist for the flowers that will welcome Maveli.  Or at least the Virgin Mary will shower her blessings on me in the month of Virgo. 

In the meanwhile, let me celebrate Alphons Kannamthanam’s ascent to Indraprastha.  This Onam is indeed very special.  It has brought so many reasons to be happy.  Let us celebrate!

The Buddha in the Central Vista

Prime Minister Modi was taking a dip in the mineral water pond constructed on the bank of the Yamuna as part of his weekly photo op when Siddhartha Gautama aka the Buddha walked into the office of the National Committee for Correcting Civilizational Narratives (NCCCN) in Central Vista, New Delhi. An email was received by “Dr Sri Siddhartha Gautama Buddha PhD” from the PMO [Prime Minister’s Office] inviting him to attend a meeting “to authenticate and align the curriculum with indigenous perspectives as part of implementing the National Education Policy, NEP.” Siddhartha was amused on receiving the mail. “Is it possible they still wish to learn after proclaiming themselves the Vishwaguru?” He wondered with a wry smile. The Little Girl

The Little Girl is a short story by Katherine Mansfield given in the class 9 English course of NCERT. Maggie gave an assignment to her students based on the story and one of her students, Athena Baby Sabu, presented a brilliant job. She converted the story into a delightful comic strip. Mansfield tells the story of Kezia who is the eponymous little girl. Kezia is scared of her father who wields a lot of control on the entire family. She is punished severely for an unwitting mistake which makes her even more scared of her father. Her grandmother is fond of her and is her emotional succour. The grandmother is away from home one day with Kezia's mother who is hospitalised. Kezia gets her usual nightmare and is terrified. There is no one at home to console her except her father from whom she does not expect any consolation. But the father rises to the occasion and lets the little girl sleep beside him that night. She rests her head on her father's chest and can feel his heart...

The King and the Queen are worried because their daughter Camilla is too ugly to get a suitor. In spite of all the devious strategies employed by the King and his Chancellor, the princess remained unmarried. Camilla was blessed with a unique beauty by her two godmothers but no one could see any beauty in her physical appearance. She has an exquisitely beautiful character. What use is character? Sardar Patel and Unity

All pro-PM newspapers carried this ad today, 31 Oct 2025 No one recognised Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel as he stood looking at the 182-m tall statue of himself.
